A Sunny, Versatile Midi Dress

A Sunny, Versatile Midi Dress

Dress: English Factory c/o Shopbop (runs small! I went XS but should’ve gone with S), I also love this breezy striped ruffled midi dress or this yellow floral midi! Also, if you’re looking for something a little dressier–this dress is hands down THE summer dress to wear to weddings! I own it in burgundy but want it in a springier color now! Sandals: Kaanas c/o Shopbop (order your normal size, they’ll be a bit snug at first but they stretch a bit!) The Steven Greece slides are my other favorite go-to pair! Hoop earrings: Vo Jewelry Ollie Hoops (she’s a local Chicago designer!), Purse: Amazon (it’s $15!!!) Hair: Curled with a T3 Whirl with 1″ barrel wand attachment Makeup: All linked here!

Happy Monday!!

What did you guys do this weekend?

Neal had a bachelor party in Michigan so I was home alone. (Which was nice because in my old age I’ve become an introvert, apparently.) I had planned to finally finish the Trader Joe’s Hacks e-Book I’ve been working on, but I didn’t get AS much done as I’d hoped––it’s coming along slowly but surely––aiming to release it in May! Get excited! I also had my friend Kai’s wedding shower which was really fun!

Last week, I got a LOT of requests for “cute versatile spring/summer” dresses when I threw a question box up on Instagram stories and asked what requests you had for the blog over the next month–so, HOORAY! That’s what you’re getting today, friends!

I had every intention to get this dress posted before Easter (because, hello, PERFECT EASTER DRESS) but as you know, I’m a hot mess and life happens and here we are. Luckily, it’s not only for Easter–it’s perfect for lot’s of occasions!

I think the cool part about this dress (aside from being adorable) is that the material is poplin–meaning, you can actually get away with wearing it to dressier occasions because poplin tends to be a bit more versatile when it comes to dressing up and looking polished. Additionally, it’s midi length makes it really versatile and worry-free about those Marilyn Monroe moments that I seem to have more of (and have become more concerned about ?) over the last few years.

Funny side bar story:

Before Neal and I moved in together, there was about a 3 month period in between our leases, so I had to move into his place where he lived with his two other best friends. (MEMORIES! Yes it was a frat house, but it was SO. FUN. This was also right when I quit my job and had absolutely no money so not having to pay rent for 3 months couldn’t have come at a better time, haha!) Anyway, he lived downtown, right by the lake up a hill, so it was quite literally, a wind tunnel. This was back when I was younger and wore a lot of short dresses, and every time I’d walk up and down that damn hill I would have to walk holding my dress down because it would fly up EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

I texted Mitch and Kelly (if you didn’t know, Mitch is an inventor and has really cool inventions he sells on Amazon, like Couch Clamp and Freezer Meter) and said MITCH. PLEASE INVENT ME SOME DRESS WEIGHTS!! (You know, like the Queen has sewn into her hems but…removable?) Mitch then embarked on a period of like 6 months of prototyping that we jokingly called “Jess Weights” but we couldn’t figure out how to attach a heavy enough weight in a way that didn’t ruin the dress and then we got bored and gave up. By we I mean Mitch. I actually had nothing to do with the process. ?

So, long story short, that’s why I wear so many more midi dresses, these days. ?This being one of them! Here are more ideas on how to wear it:

Ways to wear this yellow midi dress:

Wear it to a casual dinner: Here I wore this to dinner with my favorite rattan flats–I’ve been wearing them nonstop since the day they arrived. They are so comfortable–I’ve walked miles in them!

Dress it up for a date night or party: To dress it up but still keep it relatively casual, you could easily throw on a pair of wedges. I highly recommend Treasure and Bond wedges–they are so comfortable, the platform isn’t too high, and they don’t require break-in! Another option would be Soludos espadrille wedges, which are another pair of favorites in my wardrobe! They would be SO. DARLING. with this dress. Tip: Size down–they stretch!

Dress it up for a summer wedding: You could dress it up even further for something like a spring or summer wedding by putting on some sleeker nude heels–I swear by Sam Edelman Yaro sandals!

Not sure about this midi? Linking a few other favorites below, too!
