Top: Topshop–order the size in parenthesis on the site–Topshop as a brand runs super small–I’m actually wearing a 6 here because they didn’t have any smaller in store so it’s more on the flowy side but I like it! (similar here, here, and I love J.Crew’s classic version!) Jeans: c/o J.Crew –on sale! (One of my favorite pairs! Run TTS–they’re high waist and very stretchy!) Levi’s Wedgie Jeans are also a similar look without the stretch–and I love them equally! If you’re looking for raw hem skinnies, my favorite Rag & Bone jeans are restocked! Sizing on those runs a little big because they’re so stretchy so I’d go a size down if you’re in question. Leopard Sandals: 1901 (size down 1/2 size) if sandals aren’t your jam–Nordstrom has TONS of leopard pumps in stock–Sam Edelman makes my favorite pumps in general, too! Earrings: Amazon–like $8! They’re my favorite earrings ?
Have you guys noticed that wrap tops and wrap dresses are making a big comeback this year?
(I’m HERE FOR IT as all the cool kids are saying these days.)
I know you (like me) are always looking for pretty, feminine tops that you can wear lot’s of different ways for lot’s of different occasions. Also, in the winter, sleeves are obviously a big win, as are tops with lightweight material–because we’re constantly fighting that battle of, “it’s freezing outside but inside it’s 1000 degrees.”
Or, as one reader put it: “What do I wear under cute jackets that won’t make me so hot that I have to take it off as soon as I get inside and ruin my perfectly cute outfit?”
The answer: Wrap tops! ??
Shop some of my favorite wrap tops:
Why you should add a wrap top into your rotation:
Wrap tops are super flattering on all body types:
V-neckline: The most flattering neckline for ALL women is the v-neck. Why? It draws the eye down to the waist, which is naturally the thinnest part of your body and will emphasize your natural shape!
Defined waist: The other most flattering element that looks lovely on all body types is the defined waist–when something is snug around your middle, and then flares out at the bottom. This also emphasizes your curves and makes you look like 100 bucks. What’s magical about this is that it will create a waist for those who are built more up and down–and it will also create curves even if you don’t have any! I’ve never met a body type that didn’t look good in a top or dress with a defined waist!
Wrap tops are very easy to layer with:
Because most wrap tops are made of thinner material–maybe it’s crepe, silk, whatever–it makes them great layering pieces. Layer on a chunky cardigan sweater, blazer (obsessed with this sweater blazer 35% off at J.Crew right now!), suede jacket–(love BlankNYC’s and BB Dakota’s jackets!) whatever–and it provides the perfect base!
Wrap tops are super versatile:
You can wear them so many ways for just about any occasion! Of course, there are low cut wrap tops, there are more modest wrap tops–you can definitely find one to suit whatever you’re looking for–making them perfect for everything from dates to work!
What to wear with a wrap top:
Wrap top with jeans:
Exhibit A, obviously, is what I’ve done here! I think wrap tops are so elegant and simple, you don’t need to do much to make a killer outfit!
Here I’ve worn them with one of my favorite pairs of jeans from J.Crew (which happen to be ON SALE! Yesss!) I had been wanting a pair of straight leg button-fly jeans and I rarely think to try jeans at J.Crew, but I fell in love with these the second I put them on. They feel like butter and they have a lot of stretch to them. I love the cropped, straight leg with just a hint of raw hem–they’re classic with a little something extra and I think they bring a lot to any outfit! If you’re more into premium denim, my favorite brands are Rag and Bone and J.Brand! I also love American Eagle and Abercrombie jeans if you want more budget-friendly!
I also love to bring in a little bit of pattern as a way to spice up a pretty basic outfit–leopard is my go-to pattern for footwear! I’m obsessed with these sandals, but I know it’s a little late for sandal season here in the Midwest and on the East Coast–so I’m linking my favorite leopard Fall footwear below!
Shop leopard shoes:
Wrap top with a skirt:
You could just as easily swap out jeans for a cute faux suede skirt (BlankNYC makes my favorites!) or this sweater flare mini from J.Crew! (The flare is great because while the hemline is on the shorter side, it’s super flattering and doesn’t hug your body too tight!) That would look so cute with tall black boots! (I’ve heard really good things from friends about these Steve Madden OTK boots by the way!)
Wrap top for work:
Wrap tops also pair really well with your favorite work pants! I’d recommend going with a tailored skinny trouser (like these from J.Crew that are 35% off!) if you have a wrap top like mine that flares about at the bottom. (If it doesn’t flare at the bottom, feel free to go with a looser, wider leg–you just want to make sure your proportions are balanced!) Depending on your office dress code, you could spice things up with a leopard pump or keep it business professional with black pumps!
Wrap top bodysuit:
I have also been eyeing this wrap-top bodysuit forever now and I think I’m going to pull the trigger! But–do I want the velvet version instead?! I love how the velvet makes it feel festive and it gives of a slight Olivia Newton John vibe in the best way. It will look adorable with the skirt and jeans ideas I outlined above, and it’s a match made in HEAVEN for this pleated leopard midi skirt (also 35% off at J.Crew!)
What are YOUR thoughts on wrap tops? Do you own any yet?
