There’s nothing quite like the feeling of spring in the air. Each year in Chicago, it’s kind of like that feeling you got as a kid when you had to hold your breath underwater during swimming lessons. Hanging on as long as humanly possible, and then finally coming back up to the surface–that first breath of air reminding you how awesome it feels to just BREATHE.
Yeah, you could say the first breath of spring is frighteningly similar to that after the long (LONG) #Chiberia winter. So, you can imagine when I got my first few spring items in the mail, I jumped for joy a little. (LIGHT jackets? Slip-ons that expose my ankles? WHAT?)
And even better? When a brand knocks you off your feet a bit with how amazing their new spring stuff is. That’s how I felt with Johnston & Murphy’s new line. I filled my shopping cart faster than when I go into Whole Foods on an empty stomach. (You guys, the guacamole just gets me EVERY time!)
This White Box Jacquard Hooded Jacket I die for in particular. I can’t get enough of anything in white. And if you’re one of those people who attracts stains particularly well (it’s a rare talent, we have) I will assure you that I acquired quite a terrifying stain on the left sleeve right before this shoot, which wiped off with a little bit of water and some detergent (easier than any coat I’ve ever had–no dry cleaner necessary!) Making it, in a word, perfect. Plus, it makes me feel like Jackie-O, which is also perfect.
Moving onto these chic black and white Bree Slip-Ons, which I haven’t taken off in about two weeks. Ultra comfortable, and a great in-between if I don’t want to wear my trainers (too casual) or sandals (too cold!) I love how they’re minimalistic, slightly sporty, yet still feminine, all at the same time. I also recently ordered the Maggie Penny driving loafers, which are perhaps the most comfortable loafers I’ve ever worn.
Of course, because the weather is still a little unpredictable, my standby tissue turtleneck is the perfect essential to layer under the coat. And the cherry on top? A sweet hair ribbon–because, you know…I had to.
