My mom and I yesterday! My dress is almost gone (but still available in XS–it’s super roomy though and runs big!) belt is Amazon, and my mom is wearing my jacket from Shop OneThird! (runs small, go up a size!)
How was your weekend? Just Jess here today–Kendall will be back next week!
My mom was in town and it was such a special weekend here in Chicago! So thankful for vaccines–there was a long time where we didn’t know if we’d get to see each other at all while I was pregnant! We did lots of baby laundry and went on long walks, and had a very low-key, relaxing weekend! Yesterday we spent Mother’s Day with Neal’s family and I felt so lucky to have both my mom and my amazing MIL together to celebrate! Hard to believe next time we’re all together will be when LR arrives NEXT MONTH! AH!
Let’s jump into today’s On a High Note: Our weekly roundup series highlighting things we found inspiring, interesting, fun and/or helpful snippets and ideas to try, read, make, cook, drink, do, shop, and so on!
On a High Note Vol 49
“I’m the judge who approved the custody arrangement in The Parent Trap, but in my defense, I didn’t think they would go to the same camp.”
In light of our recent Chessy from the Parent Trap obsession (I bought this western chambray shirt because #InspiredByChessy) a reader sent me this hilarious article on McSweeny’s, entitled, “I’m the judge who approved the custody arrangement in The Parent Trap, but in my defense, I didn’t think they would go to the same camp.” A great laugh to start your Monday.
I actually can’t take credit for finding this article, it was included in Whitney’s awesome roundup this week, but I loved it so much and it felt so relevant to me right now as we are so looking forward to traveling with LR and we hope that she learns to love traveling as much as we do! I admit I expected kind of a “fluffy” article, but these tips were really out of the box, something I probably wouldn’t had thought of, and don’t just foster a love of travel, but independence and curiosity, too!
If you are looking for a new account to brighten your day and make you laugh, I give you @hayderz. He does so many influencer spoof reals and they are TOO GOOD. This Tula one was so spot on.
I don’t know if I would really call this a pregnancy craving or what is behind this new obsession, but I have been loving Brussels sprout salads lately–specifically the ones from Summer House Santa Monica and Blue Door Farmstand in Chicago. They both have shaved Brussels, bacon, and a dijony-maple vinaigrette that is to die for. (Theirs also have avocado and I will often add chicken!) It’s on my to-do list this week to perfect the salad on my own so I can stop paying ridiculous restaurant delivery prices for salads. After some searching, I found this recipe that looks very similar (but add the avocado! That’s a must!) If you’ve been craving something fresh and delicious and looking to get out of a salad rut, I think you will LOVE trying this!
Neal found this playlist on Spotify when we were in Florida and I keep meaning to share it, because it’s STILL our favorite playlist! It’s called “Feel Good Dinner” but I love listening to it any time of the day. It’s happy, upbeat, great music to play in the background that makes you want to dance!
One thing I’m going to be reaching for over and over now that the world is starting to open up again–backpacks! They’re absolute essentials for everyday, work, travel, and even more so with LR on the way. I will admit I have been agonizing over the dreaded “diaper bag” decision–I really don’t want a diaper bag. Rather, I’d much prefer to use a cute backpack as a diaper bag (and put something like a diaper bag insert inside when I’m using it as such!)
Over the weekend, this backpack from ABLE arrived and I could NOT be happier with it. It’s absolutely beautiful, it has so many compartments–very roomy, perfect for work (has a laptop sleeve) and is big enough to fit all the essentials I might need, whether I’m carrying it on an airplane, to a coffee shop, or using it as a diaper bag. (Another great perk as a diaper bag: Neal won’t complain about carrying it around!) You can use code JESSKEYS25 to get 25% off your first ABLE order!
Another amazing reason to love it: ABLE is an ethical and sustainable brand that’s run by women, for women, and was founded with the goal of empowering and investing in women as a solution to move society forward! (They have some super cute new arrivals too, you can check them out here! I just love this brand!)
