Before we jump into the fluffy shopping content, I feel like I need to say that “celebrating” the 4th feels different this year. Not just because there will be no parades, concerts, etc–but mostly because I’ve never really stopped to think that “Independence Day” was not an inclusive holiday. Or that “liberty and justice for all” is more like “liberty and justice for some.” The good news is that it’s an opportunity to do a mental check-in to be grateful for all that we have, for those who have fought for our country, but at the same time, acknowledge that we still have a lot of work to do to get America to a place that lives up to the values it was founded on–for everyone. (And if you’re feeling like you don’t know where to begin to help, give this post a read!)
I know this is not the “normal” way to start a “long weekend shopping” post, but these days, I think the juxtaposition between the important conversations and the fun, fluffy things that bring you joy have to become the norm! It felt so weird starting a “Fourth of July sale” post without acknowledging the bigger conversation that I think is important to have.
So, that being said–this holiday has also always symbolized everything we love about summer–family, friends, sun, the beach, fireworks, good food–opportunities to fill our cups. So whether you’re hanging at home, headed somewhere driving distance or something in between, I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing and safe [socially distanced] holiday weekend! OK technically these are also *not* part of the Lou & Grey sale but I had to include them here because they’re only $34 (so it’s basically like a sale price) and going fast. I ordered these because I wanted some bike shorts that were less “athletic” (and without a logo) I.E. that I could pair more easily with “normal tops” and these are so great! Very comfy–not as stretchy as normal shorts but really soft and I love the color! (Come in olive too!) They’re selling out VERY fast though! I find them to be TTS (I have a small).
