A Warm, Colorful Sweater That Will Make You Feel Springy

Feb 18, 2019

Sweater: Nordstrom (on sale for $32! Comes in two colors! Runs big, I got XS!) I also got this sweater, which is similar and only $29! I love this one that’s on sale too! Jeans: Rag + Bone (mine are from several years ago and I thought they run big but it looks like the new iteration of these jeans run TTS based on reviews!) I LOVE Rag & Bone jeans and highly recommend them–Shopbop has a great selection of them as does NordstromCap toe heels: Sam Edelman c/o Shopbop–run big–go down 1/2 size! Trench: London Fog (they make the BEST trench coats–if you need a spring coat, this is my #1 recommendation! It comes with a removable hood and liner! Runs a little big!)

I’m off to Scottsdale today, guys!

I’m excited to get out of the snow and slush for a few day. (Even though everyone who lives in AZ has been like “you’re getting the worst weather I’m so sorry!”. I find this hilarious. ?I’ll take sunny with a high of 55 degrees over a dreary 20 degrees any day, thank you!)

Anyway, now is the time of year where I get VERY sick of my existing wardrobe and really start craving more color. The catch though, is that it’s still really cold in Chicago. So every time February and March roll around, it’s the “how do I dress Springy but still warm ?” song and dance. It’s a SUPER fun game you’ve probably never had to play unless you live in the Midwest or East Coast. ?

Warm sweaters in pretty colors are usually my wardrobe weapon of choice to get me through the chilly end of winter/beginning of spring months. (Because let’s be honest, sweaters are very appropriate and necessary through the end of April.) Thus, how I recently acquired this little striped gem I’m wearing here. It’s definitely one that you’ll wear now and for the next few months!

A Warm and Colorful Sweater

This sweater (which is on sale for only $32, by the way!!) is one of those things you can put on when you’re having a bad day and instantly get a little mood lift. It makes me so happy. The stripes, the color combos–the fact that you can pair it with just about anything and it will look adorable. It also comes in another color combo which is equally as cute and cheery!

I always like to remind you guys that just because something is bold doesn’t mean that it can’t be versatile, and that is definitely the case with this sweater! Here I chose to pair it with my rag and bone skinny jeans (which are classic with a little tiny does of trendy with the raw hem!) and sweet, feminine cap toe heels–I can’t recommend either of these wardrobe staples enough!

Other ways to style a bold sweater:

Striped Sweater: Nordstrom

For a really cold day:

Swap the cap toe heels for tall boots (you know I’m a broken record about how great Blondo boots are because they’re waterproof suede!) or OTK boots (this Steve Madden pair I’ve heard amazing things about from friends is on sale in both tan and black!) and and a pom pom beanie (this one is $11 from Amazon and so cute!)

For the office:

Swap the jeans for a pair of skinny office trousers

Dress it up for a date:

Swap the jeans for a black faux leather mini skirt. It would look super cute with the cap toe heels but you could also swap for tall boots or black tights with booties as well!

Dress it down:

swap heels for a pair of white sneakers. (I just got this pair of Tretorns and I am OBSESSED with them! They are so comfortable and classic–I got the all-white version, but they have a lot more Tretorn styles at Shopbop, too!) You can also swap the dark skinnies for my favorite pair of light-washed Levi’s wedgie jeansmy exact pair are marked down to $68!

I shot this outfit on Friday afternoon with my friend Rebecca–do you follow her blog, Everyday Parisian?! It’s so good! We actually became “internet friends” because of YOU GUYS (thank you!!) saying that we had a lot in common and needed to hang out! ?Turns out, we’re also really great real-life friends. She’s the best! We are already scheming about how we need to go to Paris together and what kinds of fun projects we could do! ??

We met up at the Waldorf to help each other shoot some content, and I introduced her to the concept of having to shoot blog photos in single digit weather, but she was a pro and caught on quite quickly. ?We ended the day with a glass of wine and frites at Margeaux Brasserie (also in the Waldorf). It was the best productive afternoon!
