Happy Thursday!

(HOW is it already Thursday!?)

This short week is actually even shorter for me because one of my besties, Melissa, is getting married this weekend! Her rehearsal dinner is tonight (it’s at Stella Barra! YUM! Can’t wait!) which kicks off the weekend’s festivities so essentially I’m signing off of work as of this evening. I got a whopping…two and a half days of work in this week? ?

Today I’m diving into a topic that resonates for a LOT of you, I know–walking that line between casual yet professional workwear! According to an Instagram poll conducted by yours truly–roughly 60% of you work in business casual environments where wearing jeans is the norm–BUT–that doesn’t necessarily mean getting dressed is always easy!

I firmly believe in dressing for the job you want–regardless of your office’s laid-back dress code, I think it’s always very important to show up looking polished, put-together, and professional. So–how do you do that exactly?

Let’s find out ?

How To Dress Up Jeans For The Office

Pick the right pair of jeans:

First, you want to select your jeans wisely. Just because a dress code says “jeans are OK” doesn’t mean that any pair of jeans is suitable to wear to the office. You want to select a pair that is not too tight, with no rips or holes. A darker wash will always look more professional than a lighter wash. A pair of dark skinnies or straight leg jeans with a high or medium rise are always going to be an excellent bet!

Create a classic uniform:

A button down and jeans is always my go-to. It’s something I feel comfortable and confident in. For me, it’s the perfect example of classic, timeless style, which is something I always strive for. The one I’m wearing here is from Everlane, but I also own men’s button downs in XS or little boy’s button downs in XL ? For a variation on the same look, you can also go with a silk button down, which I am equally in love with. Everlane’s silk button down is probably the #1 most worn item in my closet!

When in doubt, go with closed toes:

Especially if you have a client in the office or you’re just starting a new job and are still getting a feel of the dress code, always always opt for close-toed shoes. They are far more professional and pumps are the ideal match for jeans, because they add the perfect amount of polish to your outfit without being overkill. (Never wear platforms to the office, and keep the heels under 4″ tall!)

Best classic pumps: Every woman needs a pair of classic pumps in both black and nude–mine here are slingbacks that I’ve had for years by Sam Edelman, one of my favorite shoe brands. This pair is super similar and I love the lower heel! Also, on the topic of slingbacks, I’m obsessed with these cap-toe slingbacks (Chanel look-alikes!) that are the perfect French-girl shoe!

Best “on your feet all day” pumps: Everlane’s Day Heels have been my #1 most worn shoe ever since I got them. I have ever intention to get them in every color ?Size up if you’re in question.

Best professional open-toed sandals:

If open-toed shoes are totally OK in your office, you still want to keep your footwear classy–these are my go-to heeled sandals and are still totally polished enough to wear to the office! Size down 1/2 size.

Polished flats: These slingbacks have five star reviews and are under $50. I also love Everlane’s Modern Loafer (I have been DYING to get a pair! But all my friends swear by them–note–you DO have to break them in and then they will be very comfortable). They’re more sleek and feminine than a lot of other loafers which in turn I think makes them look more polished. (I also loveeee my Gucci loafers and often wear them with this outfit but obviously those are a splurge)! I also love Everlane’s Oxfords (they also take some breaking in, just a heads up, but then they will be comfy!)
