Hi guys!
Happy Tuesday of Thanksgiving week, haha! Can you believe how fast November has flown!? HOW is this possible!?
I’m really excited because my mom gets in tomorrow ?? She’s coming into town for Thanksgiving again this year and we’re so excited to have her! (Thankfully the cleaning lady came yesterday so for once my house is in order ?)
Some more exciting news:
Many of the items I’m wearing today are on major markdown (if you want to get started on your Black Friday shopping early!) Right now, Lord & Taylor is offering 40% sweaters–including cashmere starting at $49.99–and boots for women and men, too!
Recently I asked you guys on Instagram stories what kind of topics you’d like to see this season on the blog–so many of you answered with “how to dress up sweaters” and “how to wear OTK boots with skirts”–so, you’re getting a double whammy lesson today ?Huzzah!
This also happens to be the PERFECT Thanksgiving outfit–so if you’re not sure what to wear, I hope this sparks some ideas!
Let’s jump in, shall we!?
The Classic Cashmere Sweater:
There are few wardrobe staples more classic than the cashmere sweater. I prefer mine to be slimmer fit, because a more tailored sweater is easier to dress up vs. a chunky one, which will always just be casual no matter what you pair it with. Lord & Taylor makes TONS of affordable cashmere sweaters, and right now–they’re 40% off! In addition to this turtleneck, also own their v-neck in black, which I’ll be styling in a few days–so stay tuned! Their cashmere sweaters come in over 28 different colors and they run true to size in my experience–I’m wearing a small but keep in mind it is a slimmer fit, so if you want it a bit looser you could consider sizing up.
What I love about a cashmere sweater is that you can literally pair it with anything–trousers for work, with jeans, you name it!
Which color to go with?
Camel and black are my two favorite sweater colors because I think they’re the easiest to dress up. Black, obviously, a given–the most universally flattering color, and also the easiest to transform from day to night. Camel, because it’s a beautiful color on any skin tone and I just think it makes anything you wear with it look instantly classier and polished!
Dress it up with a skirt:
As soon as I saw this BlankNYC corduroy skirt I fell in love! Not only is the color perfection (“burnt sienna” orangey-brown is definitely my favorite color as of late!) but the corduroy adds another textural element to any outfit–which goes a long way in adding more visual interest. I always love pairing tops and bottoms of similar color families (i.e. here, brown and burnt sienna are both browns) for a polished and put together look.
I love that the skirt isn’t too terribly short, and it’s high-waisted, so it’s really flattering because it hits you at the thinnest part of your waist and emphasizes an hourglass shape! It would also look just as cute with tights when it gets super cold! It runs true to size.
How to wear a skirt with OTK boots:
I get this question a lot, so here are a few rules of thumb–
Make sure there is a little bit of space between the top of your boot and the hemline of your skirt. If your skirt hem falls below the top of your boot, this will just look frumpy and add extra pounds that aren’t actually there. Whereas if there’s a bit of skin showing in between, it will elongate the leg and make you look super chic and stylish!
What kind of OTK boots to buy?
I always recommend Blondo boots–they are incredibly durable, and come waterproofed! So you get the look and feel of suede without having to worry about ruining them the first time you step out of the house! While I have a more expensive pair, my Blondos are what I reach for whenever the ground is wet, there is snow on the ground, it’s raining, etc. I’ve received so many messages from you guys who have purchased them on my recommendation and the reviews are ALWAYS glowing!
Right now, all of Lord & Taylor’s boots are on sale–so definitely peruse their awesome selection while the sale is running!
Finish off with an element of pattern:
I’m always a big proponent of pattern in ANY scenario! In this case, this scarf adds the perfect dose of classic plaid to the outfit to make it feel seasonal and festive without being over the top. (And no–it’s not designer–it’s Lord & Taylor’s brand and it’s under $40! ??)
Do you shop at Lord & Taylor?
I will admit, I haven’t done a lot of shopping at L&T in the past–for reasons I don’t know (!)–but that is definitely changing! I absolutely love their namesake “Lord and Taylor” label–everything they make is so affordable but beautiful, classic, and stylish. They also carry a lot of my favorite brands, and they run so many amazing promotions, where you can often snag them at a discount!
