Holiday Party Essentials

Nov 18, 2014

Welp. The holidays are officially upon us.

Yes, I’m well aware of the fact that it’s not even Thanksgiving. But December is in less than two weeks! And those who fail to plan, plan to fail. (Actually, that’s a lie. I’m the worst procrastinator ever. And that’s what rush shipping is for.) But seriously, get on your a-game early this year with these holiday party favorites!

1. Cheese Forks

There are only a few things in this world that I love more than a good cheese plate. And it’s probably just about the easiest appetizer you can pull out of your you know what, if you know what I mean. (Shit. You burned the bruschetta again?) I love these little cheese forks from Anthropologie. Perfect for a cheese and wine tasting!

2. Gel nail polish

I’m pretty infamous for being the girl that walks out of the nail salon with smudged nails. When I tried my first no-chip manicure, I never looked back. Unfortunately they can be pretty harsh on the wallet, so I leapt for joy when Sally Hansen came out with their at-home gel polish. This shade, ‘Spice Age‘ is holiday party perfect, AND your nails won’t chip from all that dish washing and DIY crafting!

3. The perfect red lipstick

I know, I know. Me and the red lipstick again. Even if you’re not a lipstick gal, there’s never been a better excuse to wear a shade of classic red than a holiday party. You better believe I’m stocking up on this NARS shade before I get caught under the mistletoe.

4. Gilded playing cards

If you’re into throwing cool parties, you should probably have a deck of cards on hand. What’s better than a great drinking game? A great drinking game with gold cards. Damn girl, you are good

5. Invitations

There’s something extra charming about paper invitations. You only throw a holiday party once a year, right? Might as well skip the cheese-tastic (and not the good kind) e-vites and splurge on the real stuff. (P.S. these ones are on sale!)

6. Chalkboard table runner

Opt for a fun, chalkboard table runner instead of a traditional one. Not only does it make cleaning up a breeze, but it’s an adorable way to label appetizers, cocktails, and more! I use these to make my breakfast bar into a snack bar for guests to graze all night. Plus this one is from my friend Mandy‘s shop. And she’s awesome.

7. A festive frock

What’s a party without the perfect party dress? I love this metallic jacquard dress from ASOS. A little madmen inspired, it’s the best kind of getup for a classic holiday party.

8. Heaven Scent

A great party should appeal to all five senses: scent included! Pick up a heavenly scent like Volcano (yes, that smell that makes you want to die in the best way every time you set foot in Anthropologie). It’ll make your guests swoon the second they walk in the door.

9. A signature cocktail

A signature cocktail that you can hand to guests as they enter will instantly put them in the party mood. If you’re not an expert mixologist (or even if you are), these fancy cocktail mixes will allow you to whip up a master cocktail in a snap.

10. Party plates

If you want to go the extra mile, ditch the paper and opt for festive appetizer plates like these cuties from C.Wonder. Who can resist adorable plaid china? Not me, sir.
