Do you do this in restaurants?

Glasses-of-rose-wine-tasting

We were recently out with friends last week, and something funny happened.

After our waitress had walked away with our drink orders, one of our friends asked, “do you always do that?”

“Do what?” I said.

“Ask the waitresses name?”

It dawned on me that not everyone does this. It’s something that has become second nature to me, something that Neal made me much more aware of when we started dating.

“Yes,” I said. “I got it from Neal.”

Let’s back track for a second–have you ever read “How to Win Friends and Influence People?”

Calling someone by name is one of the most important points of the book: “Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”

(Hint: It works.)

So–the trick to making your waiter feel appreciated? (And in return, getting the best service?) Calling them by name. Try this with anyone you’re trying to make a great first impression with. I’ve learned, it’ll take you far.

(After all, you know what they say–you can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat a waiter!)

Do you do ever this? If not, try it next time you’re out to dinner!
