Capsule Items:

To give you a sneak peak, here are the items I’ll be styling 30 different ways in the Capsule Wardrobe Guide:

Fall and Winter Capsule Wardrobe Guide

Bodysuit:

I absolutely ADORE this bodysuit from Madewell. I’m constantly trying to find tops that bridge the gap between tasteful and “hint of sexy” for date nights and going out–and this is it! It also comes with three rows of snaps in the crotch so it fits a wide range of torso lengths (and obviously makes it easy to use the bathroom ?) I’d say it runs tight (duh Jess, it’s a bodysuit) so I went with a small vs XS and was happy with that decision.

Slinky camisole:

One of the most versatile things you can own–you’ll layer it under everything and wear it all season. Everlane’s run TTS. I also love lace-trim versions like this one!

Silk blouse:

Another year-round staple. I don’t know if I’ve ever created a capsule wardrobe without this in it! It’s my #1 favorite shirt in my closet. It runs TTS but it’s supposed to be a relaxed fit.

Turtleneck:

Whatever kind of turtleneck you’d like to add here is great! I wanted to include one chunky sweater in the mix so I went with this one, which runs big, but you can easily do a more form-fitting version! Everlane is my go-to for all sweaters!

Sweatshirt:

I wanted to include a sweatshirt because I think people often have trouble figuring out how to make a sweatshirt look chic and stylish! This cozy fleece one is made from recycled plastic bottles and comes in tons of colors! Runs TTS.

Sweater blazer:

Ever since I got this sweater blazer you guys have been asking me to include it in a capsule, for good reason! It’s crazy versatile and comfy. No wonder I receive DM’s from you guys saying you own it in three colors, haha! This runs TTS.

Blazer:

I just got this from, where? (Everlane, duh) and I love the tweedy houndstooth texture-print combo and the fact that it’s tailored but doesn’t feel remotely stuffy like any old blazer you’d wear to the office, so it’s perfect for work but also to wear out! This runs TTS.

Mini skirt:

BlankNYC makes this skirt and so many other mini skirts I love. I fully appreciate that this mini skirt isn’t too “mini” so you could fully get away with wearing it with tights in a more casual office setting. This skirt runs TTS.

Striped layer:

I decided to put “layer” here because I wanted to emphasize how much stripes can do for your wardrobe but you should definitely base this layer on your own style. Whether that’s a crewneck tee, v-neck, or turtleneck–whatever works for you! My striped go-to’s are J.Crew’s Tissue Turtlenecks! (These run TTS) I also love this striped pocket tee

Blue straight leg jeans:

I have been wearing my straight legged jeans from J.Crew non-stop, so I wanted to include them as well as my other favorite pair, the Cheeky Straight jeans from Everlane. (Both run true to size!)

Easy pants:

I know how you guys are always looking for cute work pants that you can style with other items outside the office, and these are definitely them! I’ll prove it ?The pair I’m wearing is Everlane, but J.Crew has some cute pairs too!

Cropped black jeans:

My other favorite pair of jeans–lately I’ve been alternating between these cropped cigarette black jeans and the J.Crew jeans. These cropped black jeans are unlike any other denim material–they are super stretchy but very substantial (they’re thick, so ideal for winter) and they are ridiculously flattering!

Skinny jeans:

A timeless denim classic! In this capsule, I’m wearing Abercrombie’s high-waisted skinnies (which are a total steal!) My other go-to favorites at the moment are Everlane’s skinnies–I have both the high rise and mid-rise and both are A+++

Tall boots:

My top-selling pair of boots are always Blondo’s waterproof suede tall boots. They come in a couple different versions, which you can shop here–they just vary based on height, but you can’t go wrong! They look so cute with jeans and skirts!

Heeled boots:

My latest obsession–Everlane’s “Day” boots–these boots require no break-in and they are the same shape as my favorite heels–you can walk in them all day and your feet won’t hurt. They are also polished and feminine enough to wear to work with business casual attire (which is hard to do with a bootie).

Chelsea boots:

I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of flat ankle boots–I had the HARDEST time finding a pair–they were either too frumpy, too edgy, or the heel was too tall. (I needed something for Europe I could walk miles and miles in). I finally settled on this pair from & Other Stories, which is a small brand I absolutely LOVE. They make the coolest, most beautiful stuff. If you’re looking for another recco, I’d also highly recommend Sam Edelman’s Petty Chelsea Boots! They’ve got a slightly higher heel, but SO comfy and under $100!

Loafers:

I finally got a pair of Everlane’s loafers and I absolutely adore them. They are quite stiff but very comfortable (although they do take some breaking in). I think they’re MUCH more durable though because of the stiffer leather vs. a more buttery leather. The shape is the best part–they are more modern so they’re easier to style with everything–vs more classic loafers which can get “frumpy” on you if you don’t pair them with the right thing! (This makes them super great for work!) They run small, I went a 1/2 size up! I also adore my Gucci Loafers and Sam Edelman’s loafers!
