bloody marys with candied sriracha bacon

Oct 20, 2013

This past Saturday, Neal and I got really ambitious and decided the morning called for a Bloody Mary (okay, pretty much like most Saturday and Sunday mornings do)…but this time we decided a regular bloody wouldn’t do- no. I had been wanting to try out a sriracha bacon recipe I found here, and this was just the vehicle I needed for it! thus, I bring you the second cocktail in GG’s cocktail series..

I have to say this bacon was honestly just as easy as making regular bacon, and it was made for Bloody Marys. No other bloody will ever be the same without that sweet, spicy, caramelized bacon. Crack in meat form, I tell you. Here’s how to do it:

the key when making this recipe is to use your favorite hot sauce, or in our case...multiple!  the key when making this recipe is to use your favorite hot sauce, or in our case…multiple!

For the meat crack/bacon:

  • your favorite hot sauce(s) (we used sriracha)
  • brown sugar
  • your favorite seasoning salt. My favorite is from a place in Milwaukee, a spice mix called Gateway to the North. you should probably buy it immediately after reading this post.

  • combine ingredients in a bowl
  • lay out bacon on a baking sheet, brush on sauce liberally
  • bake bacon at 400 degrees for about 10-12 minutes
  • remove from oven, flip with tongs
  • liberally apply sauce to the other side, pop back in oven
  • cook for another 10-12 minutes, depending on how crispy you like it
  • remove, place on paper plate to cool…then make your bloodys

For the liquid crack/ Bloody Marys:

Ingredients (makes 2 doubles):

  • 16 oz spicy V8 (or not, if you don’t like spice)
  • 1/2 tsp horseradish
  • 4 dashes worcestershire
  • 6 dashes tobasco
  • 6 dashes sriracha or habanero hot sauce
  • 2 dashes seasoning salt
  • 4 shots vodka
  • 1/2 lemon
  • your favorite garnishes- baby pickes, olives, cocktail onions, cheese cubes whatever you have on hand- and your spicy bacon, of course

  • first, take your favorite seasoning salt (again with the gateway to the north spiel) and line the rim  of the glasses (don’t skip this step- it really makes a big difference)

Combine above ingredients in a martini shaker with plenty of ice ice. shake, strain and pour into ice-filled glasses. add your favorite garnish and finish with a piece or five of your delicious Sriracha bacon.

Drink up!
