6 Podcasts to fill your Serial void

Jan 21, 2015

When I read the title of the latest opinion piece, “Life After Serial” on The Everygirl yesterday, I about jumped out of my chair.

If you, like millions of other nuts out there, became recently addicted to Serial (and if you haven’t, I’m mad at you), you feel like this article is speaking to you. I’ve never read something before and said, “HOW DID SHE KNOW?!” Bravo, Lindsay Rush, Bravo.

For example, how did she know that we mutter “Mail Kimp” to ourselves every time we send an email? Even though that’s not how it works, and that’s not really what it’s called.

I realized, we’re all in this together, people. If you haven’t read the article, head over there now. You’ll laugh out loud and cause all of your co-workers to stare at you. (Except I don’t have any co-workers, so that was a plus.)

So, naturally, I’ve been dabbling in other podcasts to help fill the Serial void. There’s something about podcasts that you can’t get from TV or books, and I wasn’t about to give that up. Some are pretty interesting, and some are way nerdier, but I hope you like them all.

The Serial Serial

The staff of the AV club created this podcast to discuss Serial their own serial theories. YES!

Criminal

The host of this crime-based show sounds shockingly like Sarah Koenig, which admittedly, makes me a little nostalgic. It’s like a mini-dost of crime compacted into 20 minute episodes, each with a different story.

Invisibilia

NPR’s newest show which is equally as fascinating, in a completely different way.  This thought provoking show explores the “invisible” things that control human behavior, like fear, or human thought patterns. With each episode running 60 minutes long, I love that it lasts me awhile, too!

Jess Lively

This was the gateway podcast drug for me. I leap out of bed each Thursday in anticipation for this inspirational show, where Jess interviews career-driven superstars like Joy The Baker, Erin Lochner, and Kendi Everyday, and talks about living life with intention.

This American Life

The grandfather of podcasts before podcasts were even a thing, I’ve been a This American Life fan ever since I took my first Radio Journalism class in college. It was also the very program which first introduced Serial to the world. If you haven’t listened, you won’t be disappointed.

Bon Appetit

I discovered that Bon Appetit had a podcast last Friday night. Because I’m an old lady, I spent the night cleaning my room and catching up on each of their episodes. They only post once per month, talking about cooking techniques from the Test Kitchen and expanding on tips in their new issues, but if you’re a cooking nerd like me, you will absolutely love this one, hosted by Editor in Chief, Adam Rappaport.

Do you have any favorite podcasts that we can add to the list?
