A Spring Walk through Wicker Park

Mar 26, 2021

Are you on spring blossom watch where you live?

The trees haven’t started blooming here yet, but I know it’s just around the corner, and I feel like I’m waiting for them on pins and needles! I thought you might be feeling the same way, so I thought I would re-post the pretty photos I took of our neighborhood LAST spring. What a better way to kick off the weekend than a virtual morning walk, right?

A little about Wicker Park: Our neighborhood is recognized as a National Historic District and Landmark neighborhood of Chicago. (The neighborhood shares the name with its namesake park.)

Wicker Park’s history dates back to 1870, but it really started bustling after the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, when people were looking for new areas to resettle. Because of this, you’ll find everything from gorgeous Victorian Mansions, to workers’ cottages, rowhouses, and more.  If you love architecture, you’ll love Wicker Park. (If you’re local, I particularly recommend a walk down Hoyne just south of North Avenue–where many of these photos were taken–to see the mansions on “Beer Baron Row.”) And if you’re interested in doing your own little walking tour in person, or just learning more about the neighborhood–I highly recommend this article! (It’s very dated, but still a great guide!)

Are you ready? Grab your coffee, and let’s go for a walk in Wicker Park!
