70’s Fashion–A Classic Twist on a Throwback Trend

Oct 26, 2015

Suede Skirt-24

Skirt: c/o Boohoo.com // Jean Jacket: c/o Boohoo.com // Bag: Vintage, similar here // Scarf: Vintage, similar here and here // Striped Sweater:  Loft (old) // similar here at 20% off!) // Leather boots: Etienne Aigner, old (similar here and here). // Lipstick: MAC Lady Danger with MAC Lip Primer .

Earlier this week, I got together with Kelly, Blair, Jenn, Lauren, Shaheen and Maya for a little girls night with the help of some handy Gilt City vouchers! We did a tour and tasting of Chicago Distilling Company (a $19 special for a distillery tour and take home cocktail kit) followed by dinner at Presidio in Bucktown ($30 voucher for two gets you 2 small plates to share, and two cocktails. Such a steal!)

For once, I had an outfit ready to wear. (This never happens.) I’d been itching for an excuse to wear my new 70’s-tastic suede skirt and denim jacket, and this was the perfect opportunity!

First up, we arrived at Chicago Distilling Company, and got a tour of the entire back room where all the magic happens. You might recognize them from their gin–Finn’s–which has become pretty popular around Chicago. They also make whiskey and vodka, too! I’m not usually one for tasting straight booze, but I really could tell the difference. I’m excited for Neal to get his hands on their liquor to whip up some amazing cocktails this winter 🙂 For $19, this is a fun deal that can’t be beat! I’d definitely recommend doing a tour!

After that, we hopped in an Uber to Presidio–a restaurant in Bucktown I’d been dying to try! We took advantage of the $30 2 small plates and one craft cocktail per person deal from Gilt City, and it was the perfect amount of food. Everyone got a different cocktail (so I can say I tasted my fair share, if you will) and they were all incredible. For small plates–I had the homemade ricotta pasta, which was delicious. The mussels, polenta, and scallops were also fan favorites with the other girls! And the warm olives. Who knew I loved olives so much? I’m drooling just looking at these photos!

And finally, on to the outfit! I’ve been a little iffy on the 70’s trend. The whole super intense boho hippie chic thing isn’t exactly my cup of tea. But I love subtle iterations of the trend–like a chic button-up suede skirt, or this jean jacket (both from Boohoo.com) paired with tall leather boots and a preppy striped sweater. It’s a classic twist on the 70’s that I can’t get enough of!
