Wooo double posts today–(we’ll just say this is Friday’s post a little early!) because this afternoon I’m excited to be back with a styling session on my IG stories! (I haven’t done one of these in SO LONG and it feels good to be back at it!) Every so often I’ll team up with some other blogger friends to do a little style session–it’s a fun way to introduce you to new people to follow and give you tons of style inspo all at the same time!
This time, I’m teaming up with my friends Ailsa and Krista to share some easy summer outfits to copy. The three of us will be styling a few essentials from Tuckernuck (not sponsored but the Tuckernuck pieces were gifted! Thanks Tuckernuck! They carry so many classic but unique pieces and have SO many cute summer things right now!)
I hope this gives you some inspiration to get more creative with your wardrobe during this inevitable end-of-summer style slump, whether you’re shopping your own closet or looking for a couple fun new pieces to mix things up. Between the three of us, you will have TONS of style inspo to keep you going the rest of the summer!
7 Easy Summer Outfits to Copy Right Now
Today’s style session on IG stories: First, meet Ailsa and Krista!
First, let me tell you about my friends, then we’ll jump into the outfits! If you don’t follow Ailsa and Krista yet, I highly recommend you do! They are two of my favorite people who always bring a smile to my face. I can attest that they are just as lovely in real life as they are online, and most importantly, they are so REAL. You will love them.
Friend to follow: Ailsa (@_HappyGoCurly_)
First up: Ailsa! She has classic, easy, real-life style with a preppy twist. You will come for the style reccos but stay because she truly just RADIATES joy and happiness! She’s also a Certified Nurse Midwife and posts a “Women’s Health Wednesday” every week about one particular women’s health topic–even the ones nobody is talking about!
ALSO the most exciting news–she collaborated with my friend House of Shan (you know, who makes the adorable heart sweatshirts/tees that benefit a local charity?) to create the Happy heart tee! $5 of each sale go toward Chicago Birthworks Collective, an organization dedicated to changing the birth narrative for families of color. The mission- to decrease birth mortality rates for black women and give mothers the most empowered birth and postpartum experience.
Friend to follow: Krista (@KristaRobertso)
Next: Krista! Krista and I go way back to my days when I was the Fashion Editor at The Everygirl (when we were both basically children) and I worked with Krista on one of my first assignments–5 Ways to Style Your College Gameday Tee. (We had Krista style a “stadium” look for us. ????) PLEASE read this for the fantastic 2014 style. We have stayed in touch ever since, and Krista was actually the one who introduced me and Kelly when Kelly moved to Chicago, so we are all very eternally grateful to Krista.
She also happens to be another one of my favorite friends to follow on Instagram, again, not just for her style (we wear a lot of the same things but she’s on the preppier side!) but she shares lots of really fun tips and hacks and also happens to be hilarious and never fails to make me laugh.
…now, let’s get into some summer outfits!
7 summer outfits to copy this month!
Essential #1: The rainbow stripe button-down
With linen shorts + Birkenstocks
What I love about this button-down is that it’s just SO happy! You can’t not smile when you pull it on, but also, it’s very lightweight, and super versatile. It’s polished but not stiff (it’s very light) and it’s comfy–loose, but still flattering. It’s cut a little bit boxier than a regular button-down, and the sleeves are shorter for easy cuffing. Great for front-tucking or you can leave it tucked-out!
For the days when it’s hot, sticky, and you want to wear real clothes but you want them to feel like pajamas, this is the outfit for you. These linen shorts have been glued to my body since the moment I took them out of the box. So comfortable, so breathable–the perfect summer shorts. They do run big, but I’m kind of glad because I wanted them loose anyway!
Of course–what is summer without the waterproof Birks? The shoe of 2020!
With jean shorts + sneakers:
I love a classic jean shorts and sneakers outfit, and this shirt pairs perfectly with these two summer staples. This is the perfect thing for a backyard BBQ or a picnic in the park! I finally pulled the trigger on the Dee shorts and they do not disappoint–of course, you know I LOVE my AGolde Parker shorts, but I wanted to see how the two compared. I love both of them! The Dee is higher rise and a bit longer. I would say these run small–size up at least one size or two if you want them looser.
With bike shorts for “work” ????
Rainbow stripe button-down c/o (run TTS, wearing small) Alo bike shorts (run TTS, wearing small. White is sold out but they will restock so keep an eye out! Loving their newest color drop though! I adore these shorts and have them in two colors!)
Last but not least–I couldn’t forget a WORK OUTFIT amiright?!?! ???? Zoom appropriate on the top, comfy bike shorts on the bottom. WIN WIN!
Essential #2: The flowy emerald blouse
With jeans and heels (for the envelope pushers)
Tuckernuck blouse (runs TTS, wearing size XS, which is what I usually take in flowy tops!), Levi’s wedgie jeans (also run small, go up a size), Loeffler Randall Penny sandals (come in a lower heel too, available here!)
Because in [many] areas right now, we can finally dine outside, I wanted to throw in a cute date night look featuring this top! I love this outfit because it feels “dressed up” but not too much–perfect for a little summer date night. These heels are pretty much the only true heels I wear anymore because they’re so incredibly comfortable and I could walk for miles in them! They’re an investment but they have brought me so much joy over the years and I get so much use out of them. They make every outfit instantly stylish and more fun!
For this outfit, I tucked this blouse in for a more form-fitting look, but you can totally leave it loose if that’s more your thing! To tuck it in, pull it all the way to the front (so it’s taut in back), twist it, and then tuck it in!
One note: The top does have kind of a built in “bra” which is awesome, but if you need more support you can still wear a strapless bra if you choose (it won’t show in the back!) or stickies, for more coverage!
With white shorts and slides
Another casual summer outfit that would be suitable for any socially distanced occasion–this time I wore the top tucked out so you could see how it falls! Flowy and breezy to keep you cool! If you wear it tucked out, I recommend wearing something more form-fitting on the bottom to balance out the boxiness of the blouse! I love how the emerald color looks against white shorts (or white jeans!)
Essential #3: The preppy pillowcase dress
With Huarache sandals
Finally, our last featured piece, this collared shirtdress, which is both preppy and summery but also my favorite shape–which is basically no shape. ???? So if you’ve been looking for a great house dress that is a little more polished than most, here you go! It’s made of a lightweight oxford material, so it’s still comfy and breezy! It would also make a super cute bathing suit cover up! I love it paired with Huarache sandals for an effortless summer casual look!
With dressy sandals and statement earrings
Tuckernuck shirt dress c/o (runs a little oversized, I’m wearing XS), Old sandals, but similar here! Natalie Borton earrings (all her styles sell out so fast, you have to be on her notification list to snag them! Sign up here!)
Last but not least, a little dressed-up casual look in case you wanted to take your preppy house dress out on the town! Not pictured–the most important accessory–A MASK! (Don’t forget to mask up, everybody! ????????)
